The single string style of playing the 5-string banjo is a way to get linear and melodic ideas out of your 5-string banjo. This technique was pioneered by banjoist Don Reno in the 1950s but has gone to even greater heights by artists such as Bela Fleck. Ryan Cavanaugh has taken this technique and pushed it even further.
