Introducing the San Diego Charity Banjo!

We are so pleased to introduce you to the San Diego Mumford & Sons Charity Banjo. Giving back to the region where all Deering and Goodtime Banjos are made.

In honor of Mumford and Sons headlining our local KAABOO Del Mar Fest, this beauty has been personally signed by the band, and is being auctioned to benefit an incredible local San Diego non-profit!

See additional photos of this banjo and participate in the auction here.

The San Diego Charity Banjo shares the beauty of the jewels of our fine city, its ocean and natural beaches. With its neck kept the natural sandy color of Maple wood with shell-white inlays, down to its ocean green-blue stained resonator and metal parts to match; with waves and a palm tree branded into the peghead, this is San Diego through and through.

The drum head of the banjo, made by the California company Remo, bears Mumford & Sons' Delta tour wings and is personally signed by the band.

The Charity this auction will benefit is Voices of Our City Choir. The Voices of Our City Choir is transforming the perception and experience of homelessness through the healing power of the arts. Founded in 2016 by San Diego based musicians, the choir serves as a space for mutual aid and community building, as well as giving voice to San Diego's homeless community.

The choir showcases the abilities and powerful potential of every individual. Singing provides a positive sense of community and solidarity for people facing extreme hardships. It reduces stress, heightens awareness, empowers minds, strengthens bodies and sets the stage for peace and healing.

Through their concerts together as a professional performance ensemble, they have raised funds to hire part time case managers who work with the unsheltered singers to find housing and services. To date, Voices of Our City Choir has helped 41 individuals move off of the streets and into housing and/or safe shelter.

The love and support that is present at the rehearsals and performances helps choir members to regain hope and move forward in their lives.

More About the banjo. Based on the Deering Artisan Goodtime Two this banjo has a resonator back for projection, and a violin grade maple rim that gives it a bright and clear tone. Designed and built by Deering Banjos at their factory in Spring Valley, California specifically for this auction.

The stunning Artisan Goodtime banjos embody Greg Deering’s lifelong vision for the Deering Banjo Company – to make the best sounding, playing, looking, and best value U.S.A. made banjo that he possibly could. It is a never-ending quest that Deering pursues every single day.
