If you are looking for some new music, then look no further than the new single from Alison Brown and Steve Martin, featuring the remarkable Tim O'Brien!
The single, “5 Days Out, 2 Days Back” is an ode to all those touring musicians who routinely find themselves grappling with life on the road and having to leave loved ones behind. Martin's lyrics perfectly balance the sadness of leaving to hit the road and the joys of being back home.
"10-years old, little Rose, she wonders where her Daddy goes.
I come home, give a little shout, two days home, then I head out."
Up and down the Virginia coast, we miss the ones we love the most.
Tell my baby on the phone, the traveling show is traveling home."
Meanwhile, O'Brien's legendary voice is perfectly suited to the song, supported by his up close and personal understanding of the theme of the song, having spent so much of his career on the road.
Banjo duties come courtesy of Alison Brown and Steve Martin, who play their Deering Julia Belle 5 String Banjo model and Deering Clawgrass No. 2 Banjo respectively, effortlessly melding beautiful lines of clawhammer and three finger style, all the while ensuring that all the other instruments shine.
The song will be included as part of a collection of songs by Brown and Martin to be released this year via Compass Records.
