Written by Jamie Latty | Nov 16, 2018 3:00:57 AM

Deering Banjo Company and the music world at large are saddened today to learn of the passing of Roy Clark. A dear friend and beloved musician who played a pivotal role in the evolution of the banjo and music.

In this video, Greg and Janet took a few minutes today to remember Roy and share some fond memories.

Roy passed at the age of 85, following a hugely successful career as a multi-instrumentalist, and is largely credited for bringing country music to a wider audience.

For many, Roy is will be fondly remembered as the co-host of country music infused variety show "Heehaw" that stayed on air for over 24 years, as well as filling in for Johnny Carson as host of the "Tonight Show".

For Deering Banjo Company, Roy will be remembered as the first artist to play the Crossfire electric banjo, wowing audiences wherever he played. But most of all, we will remember him as an icon, a pioneer and most of all, a friend. Thank you for the memories, Roy.

Do you have any Roy Clark memories? Share them below. We would love to hear them.
