World-renowned American folk virtuosos and Deering artists the Kruger Brothers recently teamed up with German footwear icon, Birkenstock as part of their Birkenstory Series.
The 15-minute mini-documentary from Birkenstock Footwear offers a beautifully shot glimpse into the day-to-day lives of two of the most talented musicians alive today. Filmed at a variety of locations in their hometown of North Wilkesboro, NC, during Merlefest 2022, Jens and Uwe cover a range of topics, from their humble beginnings, street busking across Europe to musical influences and their individual playing styles on banjo and guitar respectively.
Jens, of course, sits comfortably with his Deering Jens Kruger Signature Model at his side throughout the episode.
The Birkenstory reveals a genuine honesty in the two brothers in a way we have not seen before, as they reflect on all aspects of their lives that led them to where they are today. From heartache to elation. The story includes early images of Jens playing at the Grand Ole Opry with Bill Monroe, as well as footage of him performing with Steve Martin!
Steve goes on to say "there are many great players, and Jens is one of the top players in the country, or anywhere in the world." We couldn't agree more! This is a wonderful piece that really pulls at the heartstrings while telling the story of passion. grit, determination, and resilience that led them to the place they now call home.
We also shouldn't ignore the staggering similarity between a young Jens Kruger and a certain Mr. Bob Dylan.
