Well here it is folks! Dueling banjos, (the banjo tune from movie Deliverance) is one of the most popular instrumental banjo tunes. It is also the most requested banjo tune by students to learn how to play and quite possibly is the tune you’ve been wanting to play since first picking up the banjo. I’m very excited to be presenting this song to you on the Deering Banjos Blog and sharing the tab with you via the Tunefox website.
This lesson in broken up into 7 sections, starting with five key phrases you hear in the original recording of Dueling Banjos. The final two sections include the Breakdown and the Ending (both of which I think are the coolest and most fun part of this epic tune).
The breakdown arrangement here is based off of the original recording with Eric Weissberg on banjo but is not by any means his exact solo. The first phrases are identical to what he plays, as is the ending.
