Dan Walsh visits the Deering Banjo Company

by Jamie Latty

Deering is no stranger to artists paying visits to the factory whenever they are in town and we recently had a visit from British born banjo wizard Dan Walsh who was here performing in Encinitas for the San Diego Folk Heritage folks.

Dan is a well-known clawhammer player with a unique style and versatile repertoire who Uncut Magazine once described as "the real deal, a demon picker!" He has been working with Deering's own Carolina Bridges for over 5 years who worked with him in the creation of his walnut Sierra banjo played in these videos;  he says it has just the right amount of brightness for his personal style.

What makes Dan’s innovative banjo style so unique is his lack of preconceptions about what the banjo is, what it should be and how it should be played. His approach will inspire many of you and you will enjoy hearing his journey with banjo in his own words.
